Stats

Watch your miles add up

Totals for all years or a single season: distance, voyages and days at sea — plus how much of the way you really sailed.

  • Sail vs. engine: miles under sail and sailed share
  • Records: longest leg, longest voyage, average per day at sea
  • Most visited harbor, favorite boat, prevailing wind
Salty's Stats tab: 153 nautical miles over 2 voyages and 9 days at sea, with 84% of the distance under sail.
Made for sailors

The details a paper logbook can't do

Salty speaks nautical miles and Beaufort, keeps sailed and motored apart and remembers every harbor — so you don't have to.

Distance, measured for you

Salty measures the great-circle distance along your waypoints. The more of your real track you tap in, the more accurate the miles.

Sail vs. engine

Note motored miles and engine hours, and Salty separates what you sailed from what you motored — leg by leg and across the years.

Wind on every leg

Record wind force and direction on a 16-point compass. See your average, prevailing and strongest wind across the whole logbook.

Skipper, co-skipper or crew

Log your role aboard and who sailed with you. A default role means every new voyage starts the way you usually sail.

Your units, no rounding

Nautical miles, kilometers or statute miles; Beaufort or knots. Salty stores nm and Beaufort, so switching never loses precision.

Find any voyage

Search every voyage by title, boat or harbor — handy when someone asks how many sea miles you have before your next qualification.

How it works

Back in the harbor, done in a minute.

No GPS tracks to clean up and no forms to fill in at sea. Just the legs you sailed, written down while they're fresh.

  1. Start a voyage

Give it a name, pick the boat, your role aboard and the crew. Each voyage gets its own color, so its route stays recognizable on the map.

  2. Log each day's leg

Pick the departure and arrival harbor and tap your route onto the map. Wind, engine hours and notes are there when you want them.

  3. Watch it add up

Every leg lands on your Journey map and in your Stats — miles, days at sea, records and wind, season after season.

Privacy

Your logbook stays aboard

Where you sail, when and with whom is your business. So Salty never holds your logbook on a server of its own.

No account needed

No sign-up, no email, no password. Open the app and log your first leg — that's the whole onboarding.

Your iCloud, nobody else's

Your logbook lives on your device and syncs through your own private iCloud between iPhone and iPad. Without iCloud, everything works locally.

No ads, no tracking

No ads, and your data is never sold. Anonymous usage statistics help improve the app — your voyages are never part of them.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still curious? Write to support — a real person replies.

What exactly is Salty?

Salty is your digital sailing logbook. Log your voyages leg by leg, see every route on a map and watch your nautical miles add up over the years.

How is the distance of a leg calculated?

Salty measures the great-circle distance along the waypoints of your route. The more waypoints you tap along the way you actually sailed, the more accurate the distance.

What does “Under Sail” mean?

Under Sail is the distance of a leg minus the distance you entered as motored. If you leave the motored distance empty, the whole leg counts as sailed.

Where is my data stored?

Your logbook is stored on your device and in your private iCloud, so it stays in sync across your devices. Nobody but you has access to it. There is no Salty account.

Which units does Salty support?

Distances in nautical miles, kilometers or statute miles, and wind in Beaufort or knots. Your logbook is always stored in nautical miles and Beaufort, so you can switch at any time without losing precision.

Can I log voyages where I wasn't the skipper?

Of course. For every voyage you choose your role aboard — skipper, co-skipper or crew — and Stats shows your miles as skipper separately.

Does Salty work on iPad?

Yes. Salty is designed natively for iPhone and iPad, and your logbook syncs between them through iCloud.

Is there an Android version?

Not today. Salty is built natively for Apple devices so it can use Apple Maps, iCloud and the system design properly. Subscribe to the newsletter to hear first if that changes.
